Commissioned by Portsmouth Choral Union this work uses the same scoring (plus one additional percussionist) as Handel’s Coronation Anthems. There is also a semichorus part for a school, or youth choir of upper voices – this can be sung by a smaller group from within the main choir if necessary.

I was captivated….approachable and dramatic. Some of the best choral effects come in the movements where the children’s chorus answer the Latin text of the adult choir with simple English words. But overall the most lasting impression was made by the third movement (Tu Rex Gloriae) where three trumpets, widely space on the stage, call to each other with haunting fanfares.
